How to Clear an Overgrown Property in Northern Indiana
Bought a place that's gone wild? Inherited back acreage nobody has touched in years? Here's a sensible order of operations.
1. Walk the property
Locate boundaries, fences, wet spots, old debris, wells and anything buried. Note mature trees worth saving.
2. Decide on the end use
Lawn, pasture, garden, trails, building site, or simply open woods — the goal shapes the method.
3. Identify what's growing
Northern Indiana overgrowth is often honeysuckle, autumn olive, multiflora rose and Callery pear. Many species resprout, so plan on mowing afterward.
4. Choose a method
Small areas may be manageable by hand. For acreage or woody growth, forestry mulching or machine clearing is far faster.
5. Maintain it
Regular mowing and seeding cleared ground keeps the work from being undone.
